Cayce Councilman Announces Details of MLK Weekend Litter Clean-Up
The City of Cayce’s Councilman Byron Thomas is honoring the legacy of service and
community of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by inviting citizens to participate in
an MLK Weekend Litter Clean-Up on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at
10:00 a.m.
The community service event will focus on beautifying
neighborhoods within the city. Last year, volunteers collected 300 pounds of
litter at the MLK Weekend Litter Clean-up.
For this year’s event. volunteers will meet at Mt.
Zion Church of Cayce, located at 1908
Wilkinson Street, Cayce, SC 29033, before heading out to
designated clean-up areas. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable
clothing and bring gloves to assist with litter removal.
Councilman Byron Thomas emphasized the
importance of honoring Dr. King’s legacy through service: “Dr. Martin Luther
King Jr. gave his life in pursuit of peace, equality, and love for our nation.
As we observe the weekend dedicated to his legacy, it is important that we
serve one another in ways that positively benefit our community. Let us be
eager to give our time in honor of a man who gave his life for others.”
The MLK Weekend Litter Clean-Up is part of the City of Cayce’s
ongoing commitment to civic pride, volunteerism, and community engagement.
Residents of all ages are welcome to participate and help make a visible
difference in the city.
Last month, Councilman Thomas was named Chairman of the
NLC’s 2026 Small Cities Leadership Council. He will play a key role among a diverse group of local leaders to
encourage collaboration, networking and the development of resources and
programs beneficial to communities that share demographics, size or location
that can be replicated across the country.
