Cayce Councilman Announces Details of MLK Weekend Litter Clean-Up

The City of Cayce’s Councilman Byron Thomas is honoring the legacy of service and community of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by inviting citizens to participate in an MLK Weekend Litter Clean-Up on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.

The community service event will focus on beautifying neighborhoods within the city. Last year, volunteers collected 300 pounds of litter at the MLK Weekend Litter Clean-up.

For this year’s event. volunteers will meet at Mt. Zion Church of Cayce, located at 1908 Wilkinson Street, Cayce, SC 29033, before heading out to designated clean-up areas. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and bring gloves to assist with litter removal.

Councilman Byron Thomas emphasized the importance of honoring Dr. King’s legacy through service: “Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave his life in pursuit of peace, equality, and love for our nation. As we observe the weekend dedicated to his legacy, it is important that we serve one another in ways that positively benefit our community. Let us be eager to give our time in honor of a man who gave his life for others.”

The MLK Weekend Litter Clean-Up is part of the City of Cayce’s ongoing commitment to civic pride, volunteerism, and community engagement. Residents of all ages are welcome to participate and help make a visible difference in the city.

Last month, Councilman Thomas was named Chairman of the NLC’s 2026 Small Cities Leadership Council. He will play a key role among a diverse group of local leaders to encourage collaboration, networking and the development of resources and programs beneficial to communities that share demographics, size or location that can be replicated across the country.
