Groundskeeper
The City of Cayce is seeking a dedicated and hardworking Groundskeeper to help maintain the parks, green spaces, and public grounds that make our community a great place to live, work, and play. Position Overview: The Groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining City-owned parks, facilities, and public grounds through landscaping, grounds maintenance, facility upkeep, and equipment operation. This position helps ensure that parks and recreational areas remain safe, attractive, and welcoming for residents and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
- Mow, trim, edge, and maintain lawns and landscaped areas throughout City properties.
- Plant, fertilize, prune, water, and maintain flower beds, shrubs, trees, and other vegetation.
- Apply fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, and other treatments while utilizing integrated pest management practices.
- Assist with greenhouse operations and plant care activities.
- Inspect parks, playgrounds, and City grounds for hazards and maintenance needs.
- Repair, paint, and install park amenities including benches, picnic tables, playground equipment, and guardrails.
- Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on park equipment and facilities.
- Operate and maintain a variety of power and hand tools, including mowers, chainsaws, hedge trimmers, and landscaping equipment.
- Assist the Sanitation Department in keeping parks and public spaces clean.
- Support City events by assisting with setup, breakdown, and transportation of equipment and supplies.
- Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on City vehicles and equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Valid South Carolina Driver's License.
- Six months to one year of experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, parks maintenance, or a related field.
- Ability to safely operate landscaping and maintenance equipment.
- Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience maintaining public parks, athletic fields, or municipal facilities.
- Knowledge of landscaping, horticulture, irrigation systems, and plant care.
- Experience operating commercial landscaping equipment and power tools.
- Familiarity with playground safety inspections and basic facility maintenance.
Work Environment: This position requires regular outdoor work and physical activity, including:
- Walking, standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting throughout the workday.
- Operating landscaping equipment and maintenance tools.
- Lifting materials and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds with assistance and occasionally more.
- Working in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, humidity, and rain.
- Exposure to dust, pollen, noise, traffic, chemicals, and outdoor environmental conditions.
