Police Officer
The City of Cayce Police Department is seeking dedicated, professional, and community-oriented individuals to join our team as Police Officer. This position offers the opportunity to serve and protect the community while building positive relationships with residents, businesses, and visitors throughout the City.
Position Overview: Police Officers perform a wide range of law enforcement and public safety duties, including patrol operations, emergency response, criminal investigations, traffic enforcement, and community engagement. Officers play a vital role in maintaining public safety, enforcing laws, protecting property, and providing professional service to the citizens of Cayce.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct proactive patrols to deter crime and maintain public safety.
- Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service.
- Enforce state laws, municipal ordinances, and traffic regulations.
- Investigate criminal incidents, traffic collisions, and other public safety concerns.
- Interview victims, witnesses, complainants, and suspects.
- Collect, document, and preserve evidence.
- Prepare detailed incident reports, investigative reports, and legal documentation.
- Serve warrants, summonses, and other legal documents.
- Testify in court proceedings and maintain records required for legal processes.
- Transport and supervise detainees, prisoners, and individuals requiring protective custody.
- Assist motorists and citizens in need of assistance.
- Work collaboratively with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
- Participate in community outreach programs, public education initiatives, and speaking engagements.
- Promote positive relationships between the Police Department and the community.
- Maintain department-issued vehicles, equipment, and required certifications.
- Participate in ongoing training and maintain proficiency with firearms and other law enforcement equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid South Carolina Driver's License.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and decisive in stressful situations.
- Demonstrated integrity, sound judgment, and commitment to public service.
- South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy (SCCJA) Class 1 Law Enforcement Certification, or equivalent certification for out-of-state applicants.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior law enforcement, military, corrections, security, or public safety experience.
- Experience in community policing, criminal investigations, or traffic enforcement.
- Associate's degree, bachelor's degree, or additional law enforcement training.
- Current South Carolina Class 1 Law Enforcement Certification.
Applicants who are not currently South Carolina certified must obtain SCCJA Class 1 Law Enforcement Certification within six months of appointment.
Work Environment: Police Officers work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment that requires:
- Responding to emergency situations and critical incidents.
- Operating police vehicles and specialized law enforcement equipment.
- Working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Frequent walking, standing, bending, lifting, and physical activity.
- Interaction with diverse members of the public in both routine and high-stress situations.
- Availability to work shifts, weekends, holidays, and special assignments as needed.
