City of Cayce to Hold Special Called Meeting on Proposed Thomas Dambo Public Art Project
CAYCE, SC — April 22, 2026 — The City of Cayce City Council has voted to continue consideration of the proposed Thomas Dambo public art project and will hold a special called meeting on Monday, April 27 at 5:30 PM to share details of the potential agreement and gather community input.
This follows Council’s prior resolution publicly announcing that the City had entered into negotiations, reflecting Cayce’s commitment to transparency and open government throughout the process.
The proposed project would bring a large-scale, internationally recognized public art installation to Cayce, making it the first location in South Carolina to host one of Thomas Dambo’s renowned troll sculptures. These installations, constructed from reclaimed materials, have become destination attractions in communities across the United States and abroad.
City officials are evaluating the project not only as a cultural asset, but as a strategic economic development opportunity. Similar installations in peer communities have drawn tens of thousands of visitors annually, increased park usage, and supported local businesses through increased tourism activity.
The upcoming presentation will provide residents with:
- An overview of the proposed agreement
- Information on project costs and funding structure
- Insight into expected economic and community impacts
- An opportunity for public comment and engagement
City Council encourages residents, business owners, and stakeholders to attend. Questions from residents can be submitted to the City in advance of the meeting and sent to [email protected] by Friday, April 24, 2026 at 12 PM noon.
“This is an important opportunity for our community to learn more, ask questions, and be part of the conversation,” said Mayor Elise Partin. “We are committed to ensuring this process is open, transparent, and focused on what is best for Cayce’s future.”
