COMMENTS FROM OUR CAYCE ELECTED OFFICIALS:
Cayce City Council met last night at 6 PM. They used their Council comments to reflect on the past week and the impact of #HurricaneHelene:
- Mayor Elise Partin touched upon the many efforts by the Cayce staff to assist our residents. She noted that a long-standing bond between our community with church leaders, neighborhood leaders and civic leaders afforded us an expedited response time and a foundation of trust in our community.
- Mayor Pro Tem Tim James discussed his conversations with business and school leaders as well as the strength of our community; as well as our Cayce staff that continues to put their mission above self.
- Councilman Hunter Sox touched upon his appreciation for our Cayce staff and citizens. For those with clean-up efforts ahead and the many displaced across out state, he stated that our hearts and prayers remain with them.
- Councilman Phil Carter thanked the Cayce staff for their preparation and communication that was “absolutely phenomenal.” He also shared that the damage and concerns from the citizens in his district was minimal; and that for the most part, people were thankful the damage was not as bad as it was for so many in our community.
- Councilman Byron Thomas stated how blessed our city was as a whole and how impactful it was for him to talk to and assist so many citizens in his district while going door-to-door on Sunday for the volunteer evacuation in Riverland Park.
UPDATES:
- The roads in and around Riverland Park are safe to drive on for residents wishing to return to the area. Old State Road has significant damage, and we ask that everyone remain cautious in low-lying areas near the Congaree River.
- The Congaree River is presently 12.9ft, we are thankful it continues to recede at a quicker rate than anticipated.
- We have provided a list of the Cayce Parks that are open for our families and visitors to enjoy while our Riverwalk area remains closed.
- As of noon today, Dominion reports that Cayce has 68 people without power.
- The Thomas Newman Boat Landing and the Cayce Riverwalk remain closed.
CAYCE FALL FEST:
- We are moving forward with Cayce Fall Fest this Saturday, October 5 from noon – 6 PM. Bring a blanket or chairs to enjoy live music, local artists and local food and drinks at Granby Garden Parks.
- As an additional effort to help our local community members impacted by Hurricane Helene, we are asking that Fall Fest attendees consider bringing canned goods and non-perishable food items. There will be a bin at the entry to collect these items at the even entry and the Brookland Lakeview Empowerment Center will distribute these items in our community.
