Assistant to the City Manager
Department: Administration
Salary Range: $47,852 - $67,920
Position Overview:
The City of Cayce is seeking a motivated, analytical, and collaborative professional to serve as its next Assistant to the City Manager. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work alongside executive leadership while contributing to strategic initiatives that shape the future of our community.
Reporting directly to the City Manager, the Assistant to the City Manager provides professional-level administrative, analytical, and project management support across a wide variety of municipal programs and initiatives. The ideal candidate is a critical thinker with exceptional organizational and communication skills who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys solving complex problems, coordinating projects, and working collaboratively with departments, elected officials, community partners, and residents.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assisting the City Manager with implementing City Council priorities and strategic initiatives.
- Coordinating special projects and citywide initiatives from planning through implementation.
- Conducting research, analyzing municipal issues, and preparing recommendations to support executive decision-making.
- Preparing reports, presentations, agenda materials, correspondence, and executive communications.
- Monitoring project timelines, Council initiatives, and organizational priorities.
- Researching grant opportunities and assisting with grant development, submission, and reporting.
- Serving as a liaison between the City Manager's Office, City departments, elected officials, partner agencies, and community stakeholders.
- Attending meetings, community events, and Council meetings as assigned.
- Responding to citizen inquiries and ensuring timely follow-up.
- Supporting organizational improvement through innovation, collaboration, and continuous process improvement.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, or a closely related field and at least five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in local or state government; or
- Master's degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, or a closely related field; or
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Valid South Carolina Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of municipal government operations and public administration principles.
- Strong analytical, research, and project management skills.
- Ability to prepare professional reports, presentations, and executive correspondence.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other business software applications.
- Ability to build collaborative working relationships with employees, elected officials, residents, businesses, and community partners.
Work Environment:
This position requires work primarily performed in an office setting using standard office equipment, including computers, telephones, and other technology. The position may require attendance at City Council meetings, board and committee meetings, community events, and other functions, which may occur during evenings or occasionally on weekends. Periodic travel to meetings, conferences, training, or other municipal facilities may also be required.
