Senior Accountant
The City of Cayce is seeking a detail-oriented and highly motivated Senior Accountant to join our Finance Department. This position plays a key role in maintaining the City's financial integrity, supporting strategic decision-making, and ensuring compliance with governmental accounting standards and reporting requirements.

Position Overview: Under limited supervision, the Senior Accountant performs advanced accounting and financial reporting functions in support of the City's operations. The position assists with budget preparation, financial reporting, annual audits, accounts payable and payroll oversight, grant administration, and compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations.
The Senior Accountant works closely with the City Treasurer and other departments to ensure accurate financial management and reporting across all City funds and programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in maintaining the City's accounting and financial reporting systems in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) requirements, and other governmental accounting standards.
- Review and oversee payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash management activities.
- Examine invoices, vouchers, payroll records, tax documents, general ledger entries, and financial transactions for accuracy and compliance.
- Assist in the preparation of the City's annual budget, including reviewing departmental budget requests and recommending budget adjustments.
- Assist in preparing the City's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and statements.
- Analyze financial data and provide recommendations regarding the City's financial condition and operations.
- Support the annual external audit process and assist with Single Audit reporting requirements.
- Assist with accounting and reporting for the General Fund, Utility Enterprise Fund, Tax Increment Financing (TIF) districts, Hospitality Tax, Accommodations Tax, grants, and other City-managed funds.
- Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reports.
- Assist with grant accounting, reporting, and compliance requirements.
- Participate in departmental training, professional development, and municipal finance conferences.
- Attend City Council meetings and other meetings as requested.
- Foster positive working relationships with City departments, government agencies, auditors, vendors, and business partners.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
- Three to four years of progressively responsible accounting experience, preferably in governmental accounting.
- Valid South Carolina Driver's License.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls.
- Proficiency with accounting software, financial management systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in local government finance or municipal accounting.
- Certified Government Finance Officer (CGFO) designation.
- Experience managing federal, state, or local grants.
- Experience with Single Audit reporting and compliance requirements.
- Familiarity with GASB standards, governmental budgeting, and municipal financial reporting.
- Experience preparing or contributing to Annual Comprehensive Financial Reports (ACFRs).
Work Environment: This position primarily works in a professional office environment and requires:
- Reviewing and analyzing detailed financial records and reports.
- Frequent computer use and data analysis.
- Collaboration with City staff, auditors, vendors, and government agencies.
- Attendance at meetings, training sessions, and occasional evening City Council meetings.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
