South Carolina Water Utilities Hosts City of Cayce Utilities Division

South Carolina Water Utilities gave City of Cayce wastewater operators a tour of its Woodlands Hills Lagoon Wastewater Treatment Plant in Columbia. This lagoon is around 10 acres in size and holds 15 million gallons of wastewater, where it receives biological treatment to ensure it meets strict cleanliness standards and mandates before being sent to the Saluda River. The two utilities share the goal of being good neighbors and working to keep our rivers clean.

The City of Cayce brought over five of its wastewater course students, plus its pretreatment superintendent, who teaches the class. The tour, led by South Carolina Water Utilities’ area manager David Hancock and crew chief Robert Sloan, was considered a field trip, where they learned more about the Woodland Hills operation. The class is a part of the Water Environment Federation and the publication, Wastewater Treatment Fundamentals, teaching series and is led by Neal Klimek, who is senior technical advisor for Cayce Water.
