City of Cayce Survey of Historic African American Cemeteries

In November 2022, the City of Cayce hired the Stantec company to complete the City of Cayce Survey of Historic African American Cemeteries. This project started with an initial public meeting on January 24, 2023 to gather input concerning cemetery locations and history. The archival research was conducted on-site and online between January 2023 and April 2023. The archival research visit concluded with a preliminary site visit to each accessible cemetery. The research from these visits and meetings culminated in the preparation of a historic context submitted to the City in April. Stantec conducted an intensive level field survey of the identified historic cemeteries in April 2023. This historic context, along with the results of the fieldwork, are integrated into a report describing the methods and results of the survey. The final report and a public meeting to survey results and recommendations to the community occurred October 3, 2023.
