Special Election for Cayce Council District 1 to be held Tuesday, September 22, 2020

The Lexington County Election Commission for the City of Cayce announces a Special Election to fill an unexpired term for the City of Cayce, Council District #1, to be held Tuesday, September 22, 2020.

The following office shall be included in this election:

Councilmember District #1 - term expiring 11-2-21

Precincts are as follows:

Cayce #1 – American Legion Hall, 402 Naples Avenue Cayce #3 – Cayce United Methodist Church, 1600 12th Street

People desiring to vote in the upcoming election must be registered by August 22, 2020. To register, one must contact the County Board of Voter Registration at 785-8361.

Citizens desiring to be a candidate must reside in the District and must file a Statement of Candidacy at the Lexington County Voters Registration and Elections Office, located at 605 West Main Street, Suite 105, Lexington, SC and pay the appropriate fee for the office of Councilmember of $50.00.

The candidate must also file a Statement of Economic Interest and a Campaign Disclosure file according to Ethics requirement.

Books are open for filing beginning at 8:00 a.m., July 27, 2020 and will remain open during regular business hours until 5:00 p.m., August 7, 2020.

In person absentee voting opens August 19, 2020 and will close at 5pm on Monday, September 21. In person absentee voting will need to take place at the Lexington County Voters Registration Office. They will accept absentee by mail ballots until the polls close at 7pm on the day of election.

This is a nonpartisan election and no party affiliation shall be placed on the ballot.

The polls shall be open at 7:00 a.m. on Election Day and close at 7:00 p.m. At 9:00 a.m. on said Election Day the poll managers will begin examination of the absentee ballot return envelopes. This examination will be held at the Lexington County Voters Registration Office.

On Thursday, September 24, 2020 at 9:00 a.m. at the Lexington County Voters Registration Office, the Lexington County Board of canvassers will hold a hearing to determine the validity of ballots challenged in this election.
