Heritage Celebration at Cayce Historical Museum, 2-6pm on 6/16/16

 

CAYCE, SCThe Cayce Historical Museum is thrilled to announce they will be holding a Heritage Celebration this month. This event will be held on Thursday, June 16th, from 2:00-6:00 pm in the Museum’s Visitor Center in the Cayce City Hall complex (1800 12th Street). There is no charge for this event.  

 

Please join us in remembering and celebrating the rich history of Cayce and the many people who helped shape it.How we all relate to Cayce, old Granby, Saxe Gotha, and Lexington County along with other interesting topics will be discussed.  We will also learn about Arthur Towne and of President Jimmy Carter’s involvement in that project. Host speakers for this celebration will be Sonya R. Hodges Grantham and Robin Foster.  

 

Sonya R. Hodges Grantham; a mother, grandmother, presenter, preservationist and author among many things has put together an interesting afternoon of storytelling, scavenger hunts, a broom corn sweeping contest, heritage foods, old African American folk songs and more.  

 

Robin Foster has been researching and helping people discover and share information about their ancestors since 1985. She works to heighten awareness of genealogy and resources through social media. Robin hosts a regular weekly webinar called “Genealogy is a Trip”, where she shares valuable information and resources to help with documenting ancestors. She is co-owner of “Genealogy.com” and has helped to build today’s value and interest in genealogy.  

 

All residents and history lovers are encouraged to attend this event and join Lexington County historian and Cayce Historical Museum executive director, Leo Redmond, as he shares some little known bits of history with you at the Heritage Celebration.
