Trash Collection

Household Trash Collection

All household garbage must be in plastic bags. Our refuse collectors have been directed not to empty containers that are holding loose or raw garbage. Please keep our city clean and litter free by putting garbage in securely tied plastic bags and placing it out for collection on the morning of pickup—and not before!

Most of the residential trash in South Carolina is collected door-to-door or is taken to a transfer station by individuals. Ultimately, the trash is taken to a county landfill. Most landfills are not designed for hazardous household wastes. These wastes can leak into water supplies and/or cause air pollution. Hazardous household waste may cause a fire or explosion, or give off dangerous fumes. Sanitation workers have been seriously burned, lost their eyesight, or suffered lung damage while compacting hazardous materials. Equipment has also been damaged.

Improper disposal of Hazardous Household Waste can include pouring them down the drain, on the ground, into storm sewers, or in some cases putting them out with the trash. The dangers of such disposal methods might not be immediately obvious, but improper disposal of these wastes can pollute the environment and pose a threat to human health. Many communities in the United States offer a variety of options for conveniently and safely managing HHW.

The City of Cayce collects household waste on a weekly basis then takes it to the landfill. Please help to keep our Sanitation workers as safe and healthy as possible. The tabs to the left provide a list of what not to trash and more information about how to properly dispose of potentially hazardous materials.

Yard Waste

To serve all our residents as efficiently as possible, bagged yard waste will be given priority over unbagged yard waste and will be picked up on your regular household trash collection day.
For unbagged yard waste, our Sanitation Department uses a pitch fork to scoop up the pile. There may be times when we are unable to scoop up the entire pile and some debris may remain.

Tree limbs should be no longer than six feet in length and six inches in diameter. All yard waste should be kept separate from other types of waste. Improperly prepared yard waste will not be collected.

Yard waste in normal seasonal quantities will be removed by the city. Abnormal quantities may be collected, if feasible, after normal collection is completed. A fee for collection of abnormal quantities of yard waste shall be collected in advance as set by the city manager based on costs of personnel, equipment and landfill fees. Whole trees, stumps and land clearing debris will not be collected by the city, but shall be disposed of by the property owner or contractor performing removal.

Questions regarding yard waste regulations or fees for removal of abnormal quantities of waste, please call Thomas White, the Director of Sanitation, at (803)796-9020, Ext. 3027.

Tires

A collection fee will be charged to pick-up tires. The cost is $5 per tire (with or without rims). Payment must be received in advance of pickup. Please call Thomas White, the Director of Sanitation, to arrange for pickup at (803)796-9020, Ext. 3027.
