James "skip" jenkins
MAYOR PRO TEM
District TWO Councilman

Skip is proud to have called Cayce his home since he was born. He is the only member of council who was born and raised in Cayce and lives just a block away from where he grew up. He is the son of Lester and Alma Jenkins – the third oldest of six children – and attended the former Ida A. Bull Elementary School (what is now Cayce Elementary School). His wife is also from the West Metro area.

Skip has been a proud employee of CMC Steel for 40 years. He began his career there greasing equipment, eventually being promoted to lead man in 1978. Since then, he’s worked as a supervisor, general foreman and now works as the plant’s supervising manager.

He has been closely involved with the development of after-school programs for schools in the Cayce area. A father of four sons and grandfather to five, he wants to make sure kids have access to a range of academic opportunities. Additionally, he has pushed the development of more trade certifications for students. Skip is a self-taught welder and wants children to have access to similar trade programs. His dedication to community improvement and safety resulted in his appointment to the National League of Cities’ 2014 Public Safety & Crime Prevention Steering Committee, where he was tasked with developing the NLC’s federal policy positions on crime prevention, corrections, juvenile justice, disaster preparedness and more.
